NOF training - did the earth move for you?
p>
Some teachers say that 'NOF', the UK funded computer training programme was alright. Maybe it was after the consistently bad press it has received. But then it depends who you ask: the Teacher Training Agency who set up the programme say it was great, and so do NOF, the organisation that funded it. Also in the 'NOF is great' corner are many of the firms who offered training. From my corner, working with the Science Consortium, I met a few handfuls of people who received it well and not without good cause. But then I also met literally hundreds of teachers bemused as to what it was tring to do for them. The Science Consortium had good points recorded eslewhere, for now, I've put together a behind the scenes perspective. It tells about this £3 million business and how the business skills at Sheffield Hallam University allowed a software company to bite off a lion's share of the money. If you thought the money was heading for charity in the form of the ASE, they never saw it either. Check out our Science Consortium Diary where we tell how we saw it.
